Analysts weigh in on GE lending plan

Analysts say that GE’s tightening of its floorplan lending standards could seriously affect the marine industry, where it is the primary source of commercial credit.

GE recently announced substantially higher interest rates, tougher requirements on curtailments, higher up-front “stocking fees,” and extended repurchase commitments for manufacturers, Edward Aaron, analyst with RBC Capital Markets noted in a report.

'Small' change makes big splash among anglers

The major change for flounder fishermen in the coastal bays area this spring and summer will be an increase in the minimum length for a keeper, from 17.5 to 18 inches. The creel limit of three fish per angler a day will remain the same, but the fall fishing season will be eliminated.

Here's why offshore drilling is bad for Va.

The Navy and NASA are both opposed to offshore drilling; 72 percent of Virginia's offshore drilling zone is within the Navy's Virginia Capes Operating Area, the principal training area for air, surface and submarine units as well as a testing area for new vessels, aircraft and weapon systems. Oil/fire and ordinance don't mix. Florida will be an attractive alternative for the naval fleet if oil rigs are built in Virginia's waters. Can Virginia afford to lose one of its largest employers?

Confusion may be catch of day for striper anglers

Anglers will get to catch smaller striped bass in the Delaware Bay and Delaware River this year, but there is a rub.

The lower size limit, possibly as small as 20 inches, will be legal only in Delaware and Pennsylvania. New Jersey waters will be stuck with the 28-inch minimum fish size that has been in place for more than a decade.

The boating group included two professional NFL football players, Corey Smith of the Detroit Lions, and Victor ("Marquis") Cooper of the Oakland Raiders. Nick Schuyler and William Bleakley, former University of South Florida football players, were also on board Cooper's 6.4m (21ft) Everglades fishing boat.
