2008 Striped Bass World Championship

 THE 11TH ANNUAL MERCURY STRIPED BASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

–Two-month event begins November 1st —

 

(Virginia Beach, Va., October 24, 2008) - Fisherman from far and wide once again will  head to the Hampton Roads region to test their skill in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay during the 11th Annual Mercury Striped Bass World Championship (SBWC), November 1, – December 31, 2008.  The two-month event presented by Cabela’s and Lynnhaven Marine will award hundreds of prizes, with $2,500 going to the lucky angler who lands the largest striped bass during the event.  Additional prize categories are available for juniors (age 16 and under), flyfishing release division, surf and pier and military anglers. Anglers may purchase tournament registrations at one of 30 official locations located throughout Hampton Roads.

The current Virginia state striped bass record is 73 pounds set January 23, 2008 by Fred Barnes of Chesapeake, VA.  The overall winner of the 2007 Striped Bass World Championship was Aaron Hofmeister of Reistertown, MD with a 56 pound 7 ounce lunker.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CHRIS’ BAIT AND TACKLE IS HOSTING THEIR 12TH ANNUAL KIPTOPEKE ROCKFISH TOURNAMENT. THIS YEAR WE HAVE TEAMED UP WITH THE NORTHAMPTON TOY CLOSET TO COLLECT TOYS FOR CHILDREN ON THE EASTERN SHORE. THE TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD ON THE FIRST WEEKEND AFTER THANKSGIVING, THE DATES BEING NOVEMBER 28TH, 29TH AND 30TH. THIS WILL BE A BOAT TOURNAMENT WITH UP TO 6 ANGLERS TO A BOAT. ENTRY FEE WILL BE $150.00 PER BOAT, PLUS A DONATION OF A TOY, IF SIGNED UP BY NOVEMBER 15TH OR $175.00 PER BOAT, PLUS A DONATION OF A TOY, AFTER NOVEMBER 15TH. SIGN-UPS TO THE TOURNAMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED UP TO THE CLOSE OF THE CAPTAINS MEETING ON NOVEMBER 28TH.

          LINES IN WILL BE 9:00PM, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 28TH. THIS IS A DAY/NIGHT EVENT.

          WEIGH-INS WILL BE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH 7:30AM TO 5:30PM AND SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH 7:30AM TO 5:00PM.

          PRIZE FUND WILL BE BASED ON NUMBER OF ENTRIES WITH 90% OF PRIZE FUND WILL GO TO WINNERS AND 10% TOWARDS EXPENSES.

          1ST PLACE - 50%, 2ND PLACE - 30%, 3RD PLACE - 20%

Fountain: Auditor’s opinion no cause for concern

Fountain Powerboat Industries said this morning that a recent auditor’s opinion raising concerns about the company’s finances is a “formality.”
“This is the second year in a row we’ve had a net loss,” Irving Smith, Fountain CFO, told Soundings Trade Only this morning. “Based on that, the auditor is required to put a going concern opinion in the [annual] report.”

US retail boat sales continue decline through August
