Congratulations to Josh Grant from Lynchburg VA for his first monster rockfish citation…..Josh reeled in a monster 44 pounder yesterday along with several other very nice rockfish caught by his dad and girlfriend to round out a great day before the snow set in…..see attached picture of Josh’s prized catch….

We started the day in good conditions about 2mi east of henry light before the the winds picked up. Lines in water less than ten minutes, first fish in box, mid 30 inch fish. one or 2 more in the same range then we notice we have a hog on.......in the boat went a 48" beauty that weighed out at 44 lbs for a first time rock citation for Josh from Lynchburg area.....way to go Josh! we then had steady picking for a few hours, found a huge mass of birds further inshore with one or 2 more in that area.....interestingly the birds produced very little for us evern though it was a mass of thousands it seems in the area for 1-2 hours. as the bite slowed we headed a little further north to find a few more to round out the day. We ended the day with 8 fish total, most in the mid to upper 30 range and one citation at 44 pounds.....lots of meat for the freezer for the Grants from Lynchburg.....thanks for working to bring in all those perty fish you caught!!!

There is still time left in the rock fish ocean season to plan that perfect fishing trip with your friends, family or work group but call soon, dates are becoming limited for the month of February!!!!!!!!!Don’t let that citation catch pass you by!!!!!!!!

Thank You's for MARS

First of all there is a lot of thank you’s that need to be said. The first one goes to my wife holly and my kids because with out their support I could not do what I do for a living. The next is to the owners of Chesapeake Angler Magazine Karen Jett and Laura Kelly for believing in me to get to job done. Some times the job is delivering magazine to a show or to a tackle shop the next could be go find the “Big Fish” in a tournament. I truly thankful for them picking me to be their Captain of the Chesapeake Angler Magazine fishing team. The next thank you goes to all who fish with me on the team. You guys make might my job a lot easier. Every one understands that Tournament fishing is a team sport. There is many that support our team even when there are not on the boat fishing. Our sponsors play major part in providing resources to compete at a higher level though out the tournament trail. The next is friends and fellow Competitors that share fishing info though out the tournament trail. It is not always your weekend to catch the winning fish but it was for us this past weekend in the 5th annual Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shootout.

With in the first ten minutes on day two of the tournament we had a 56.2 lbs Rockfish in the tournament Bag. It only took a little while to place add another 37+plus lbs into the tournament Bag. The official time was 1:51pm when we landed the third fish 43+plus lbs. This was enough to place us on top of leader Board at 137.4lbs

Good Friends Capt David Nova and Greg Nunn both had me very scared of losing our lead on day three of tournament with a great three fish stringer of 131.40 lbs and131.04 lbs. It was a leader Board full of great friends and Top Notch Anglers and unbelievable Weekend of Fishing!

As always it was Great tournament. Mike Standing and crew a “Big Thumbs UP”!

Thanks Again Everybody!!!

01-11-2007 Hoodlum Fishing with Wayne Galleher and Dave Darden

Wayne Galleher and Dave Darden had an exceptional day fishing just South of Candy Land on Friday. Hoodlum had us a little worried that they were in the tournament. Below is thier fishing report:

Went out on the "Hoodlum" Capt. by Kevin Poole and first mate Jason. This was the first time I had been on the boat. Stepped onto a very nice 58' Custom Carolina. You can tell tell the capt and mate take great care in their investment. Left Rudee and went down south a few miles and started fishing. Hooked up shortly after lines were in the water. Decent fish, but he went back. Got a call from a buddy on the radio and he said come down south a bit more. Started catching fish starting around 36" and on up.

Now, for a wild and exciting part of this trip. We had a slight rain shower and we got a fish on! The capt handed down the rod to Jason and he went to hand it to my buddy and they had a miscommuncation and the rod was flying to the stern on the boat, got caught up on the back, but I was to slow to get it in time. Gone! Yes, this has happened to most of us before. It's part of fishing but a very expensive part. A few minutes later one of the other lines was looking like it may have something on it. Jason strted to reel the line and guess what, the fishing rod got snagged. Jason reeled the rod in, I leaned over to get it and I know you guys will not beleive this, but the rod that went in had the fish still on it. My buddy David realed it in and we had a HOG on that rod.I think that fish was around 44" weight close to 40#'s. What a great save.

Finished the day with 8 very nice fish. We had a great time. Many boats out there seemed to be doing well. You guys in those small boats, hope you caught fish because you desereved it after those big waves. We hardly noticed the waves when you in a 58 footer, cold beer, and great company!

Hoodlum, thanks again for you all's hard work! You two put on a first class operation and we are loking forward to more fishing trips with you!
